William Ozga a beloved family man, educator, and friend, passed away on May 13, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of many. Survived by his sons William Jr. and Michael, daughter-in-law Katherine, and cherished grandson Theodore, William's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and the power of love.
William was actively involved in his community, known fondly as a Boy Scout leader with Troop 45. His passion for education shone brightly throughout his career; he earned a Master’s Degree from St. John's University and served diligently as the Chairman of Social Studies at Bishop Ford High School. His students cherished his unique approach to teaching and often spoke of the profound impact he had on their lives. As a teacher of Drivers Education, he imparted not only knowledge but life skills that would carry his students well into their futures.
A hardworking family man, William took great pride in providing for his loved ones. He was a lover of all animals, with a special fondness for dogs that enriched his life with joy and companionship. William created countless memories with his family through vacations to Cape Cod, trips to Cooperstown, the Basketball Hall of Fame, and the US Open tennis matches that he attended almost every year. He was a devoted fan of the Mets and Yankees, and cherished evenings spent cheering on St. John's Men's Basketball teams. Holidays were a time for entertaining, with summer barbecues and backyard parties where laughter and joy permeated the air.
William's interests extended beyond family gatherings; he was an avid guitar player and music enthusiast who had the privilege of attending the iconic Woodstock music festival in 1969. His passion for music drove him to numerous concerts, fostering a love for rhythm and melodies that enriched his life. A passionate tennis player, he found immense joy in playing with his dear friend Jim. He also relished the camaraderie found in hanging out with coworkers at local eateries, visiting restaurants with friends, and engaging in spirited chess matches. Weekend reunions with Troop 45 brought him great happiness, as did trips to Atlantic City and evenings spent playing card games with his buddies.
Every evening seemed a little brighter watching Jeopardy with his beloved wife Joan appreciating the little joys of life over a glass of wine and cheese. William's warmth and friendly disposition often led to amusing encounters where he would be stopped by random people asking, “Are you Paul Sorvino?” This lightheartedness was emblematic of the charm that defined his interactions, drawing others in with his affable nature.
As we come together to honor William’s life, his memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him. Friends, family, and former students alike will carry forward the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the smiles he inspired. His presence is deeply missed, but his spirit remains alive in every story shared and every memory treasured.
