With sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Nancy Ann Herbert of Brooklyn Heights, NY, who passed away at the age of 96.
Born in Lansford, PA to the late Kathryn Herbert (née Hartranft) and William Herbert, she and her family moved to the Bronx and became a passionate lifelong New Yorker. Nancy spent her entire career at the NBC, where she managed NBC affiliate relations. She travelled the world for both business and pleasure, filling many passports and attending political conventions, Olympics, Super Bowls and World Series. Nancy loved her work, her family, her cats (most recently Agatha), her neighbors and their pets, a good pizza, chocolate and Brooklyn Heights.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Joan Carolyn Sharpe (née Herbert), Joan’s husband, Thomas Anderson Sharpe, and her nephew Eric William Sharpe (all of Scranton, PA).
She is survived by her nephew, Thomas Anderson Sharpe, Jr. (Lisa Gurwitch) (Washington, DC), and Lisa’s children, Max Fleisher (Lauren) and their children Amos and Maya; and Brian Fleisher (Kristen) and their daughter Eliana; and her nephew, David Howard Sharpe (Beth) (Summit, NJ), and their children David, Emily, Caroline and Thomas; Eric’s daughter Ellie Bader and her children. Nancy is also survived by her treasured stepfamily in Germany: her stepdaughters, Gweny Bauscher (née Catherman) (Bebbes Bauscher) and Leslie Catherman (Tobi Tilliger) and their children: Franziska Bauscher (Jens Koster); Katharina Schad (née Bauscher) (Matthias Schad); Philipp Bauscher; Jessica Catherman (Christian Catherman); and Steven Catherman (Lisa Wieczorek); and grandchildren Marie, Henrik, Finn, Tess Schad, and Emily Catherman. Nancy’s German family remembers with great fondness their visits to New York City to see Nancy and Nancy’s many travels to Germany with all of the shared memories.
A private family burial will be held in Summit Hill, PA, where Nancy will be laid to rest with her parents, sister and nephew.
In celebration of Nancy’s love of travel, donations in her memory may be made to the Nancy Herbert Travel Scholarship Fund at Hostelling International USA (on-line link to donate: www.hiusa.org/Herbert).
