Michael Alicea, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a man of unwavering strength and principle, passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joanne Alicea, his daughters Linda and Dolores, his brother Carlos, his sons-in-law Juan and Rob, and his cherished granddaughter Emmily and her husband Tyler. He now reunites in peace with his late daughter Rachel, his son Michael Jr., and his grandson Robbie.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in downtown Brooklyn, Mike's vibrant spirit and passion were evident early in life. A gifted soccer player, he earned a college scholarship for his athletic talents, setting the stage for a lifetime of achievement and perseverance.
Mike proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, embodying a spirit of service that remained with him throughout his life. Following his military service, he built a long and distinguished career at Con Edison, where he excelled as a lead Fraud Investigator, maintaining an astounding 96% win rate.
A true lover of life, Mike found joy in Spanish music, particularly salsa, Latin jazz, and flamenco, and was known for his skills as a talented salsero. His enthusiasm for sports, especially boxing and hockey, matched his energetic and determined nature. Mike loved activities with his children including bicycling and skating. His favorite baseball team was The Mets and Mike loved taking his son and daughter to Shea Stadium to watch them play.
Mike lived by the words "Feo, Fuerte y Formal" — ugly, strong, and dignified — a mantra that perfectly captured his approach to life. His deep sense of justice led him to stand proudly among thousands during the historic March on Washington in 1963, which fittingly fell on his birthday, August 28th.
Mike’s strength, wisdom, and magnetic presence touched the lives of all who knew him. His family — especially his dear Joanne — will forever miss him.
