Leonard “Lenny” Donato passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, just one month shy of his 88th birthday.
Lenny grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, surrounded by close-knit family and wonderful lifelong friends. Those early years shaped his deep sense of loyalty and connection, and his stories from that time—colorful, vivid, and often hilarious—became the stuff of family legend.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anita, in 2023—a love that remained the center of his life. Together, they built a family rooted in devotion, warmth, and lasting traditions.
Lenny dedicated 40 years of his career to King Features Syndicate, where he was a respected and valued employee. His strong work ethic and commitment were matched only by his pride in providing for his family.
He is survived by his devoted daughters, Helena Moseman (Robert) and Suzanne Asmar (Paul), who carry forward his strength, values, and love of family. Lenny was a proud and adoring grandfather to Robert (Courtney) Moseman, Alexa (Justin) Higgins, Jillian (Dave) Tiwana, Kelly Moseman, Skylar (Ian) Woods, and Olivia (Michael) Lazzaro. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren—Amelia Higgins, Dev Leo Tiwana, and Logan Higgins—who brought him immense happiness and pride.
Lenny is also survived by his brother Joseph, his sister Connie Pirillo, his lifelong friends and in-laws Bob and Marion Siligato, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
His life was one of deep devotion—to his family and to every New York sports team. His love of the Yankees, Knicks, and Rangers was well known, and he never missed watching a game. Whether celebrating a win or lamenting a loss, he brought the same passion and loyalty that defined all aspects of his life.
Lenny will be remembered most for his steady presence, his great sense of humor, and the unforgettable stories he shared so generously. We will miss him every day and look forward to the day when we can “chew the fat” together again.
May he be at peace with his beloved Anita, listening to Tony Bennett.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
