With heavy hearts and loving memories, we celebrate the life of John Michael Alvey, lovingly known to many as “Kid Priz” and a beloved “Mighty One,” who departed this life on March 17, 2026.
Born on March 6, 1984, John was a man whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and strength to those around him. He was known for his genuine spirit, his loyalty to family and friends, and his ability to make people feel seen and appreciated. Whether through his words, his smile, or simply his presence, John left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
John was a proud graduate of the High School of Art and Design in New York. He was an incredible artist and an exceptionally talented music producer, writer, and rapper. Many knew him by his entertainer’s name, “Kid Priz,” a name that reflected the creativity and passion he carried so naturally. His gift for rapping and producing was something special, and those who knew him best often spoke of the extraordinary talent he possessed.
To his family, John was so much more than his talents. He was deeply loved, and the thing so many people cherished most about him was his smile. His second sister lovingly called him “My Bebe” and loved him like a son. John lived a life filled with meaningful connections and unforgettable moments. He valued family above all and carried himself with a quiet strength and a big heart.
John is survived by his mother, Maria Elena Helleby Alvey, his oldest sister, Edith Alvey, his second sister, Angela Alvey Wimbush, his brothers, Alfonso Alvey and Gary Alvey, his fiancé, Shanee Chestnut, and a loving host of 10 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great grandnephews, along with his aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
John also had a charm and confidence all his own, along with a sense of humor and honesty that made him unforgettable. He knew what he liked in life, spoke his mind, and embraced who he was without apology.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his family, friends, and all who had the blessing of knowing him.
