Giuseppe Santaniello, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family. He was 89 years old.
Born in Bracigliano, Italy, on November 23, 1935, Giuseppe was the devoted son of Alphonso and Filomena (Leone) Santaniello. He dedicated the early decades of his life to spiritual service as a Capuchin monk in Sorrento, Italy, before following his heart and beginning a new chapter of life in America.
On August 24, 1980, Giuseppe married the love of his life, Carmela, and together they built a family rooted in deep faith, enduring love, and joyful traditions. Giuseppe worked as a chef in Little Italy at the renowned Grotto Azzurro restaurant, where he shared the kitchen with his brothers Giovanni and Marzio, creating delicious meals that brought people together.
Giuseppe’s greatest joys were his family and the quiet moments of life. He adored his son Michael, his daughter Emilia, and son-in-law Peter Marinaro. His granddaughters - Julianna, Victoria, and Micaela - were the light of his life. He loved to sing to them, pass down his favorite Italian proverbs, and speak with them in his native language, nurturing a love for their heritage.
He is also survived by his sisters Michelina and Emilia, his brothers-in-law Carmine, Mario, and Antonio, and his sisters-in-law Assunte, Geraldine, and Anna, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who admired him dearly.
Giuseppe was a man of deep compassion and quiet strength. Whether offering a warm handshake or lending a helping hand, he had an unmatched ability to make others feel seen, heard, and loved. He would have given the shirt off his back to someone in need and never hesitated to offer kindness.Giuseppe’s family lovingly recalls his favorite traditions - from preparing his signature spaghetti aglio e olio, to gardening, playing cards, and attending Italian concerts with Carmela. He was deeply spiritual and knew all the prayers, hymns, and responses at Mass by heart. Even after leaving monastic life, he remained deeply rooted in faith and purpose.
Giuseppe taught his family the true meaning of humility, strength, and perseverance. Having lost his own father at a young age, he committed himself to always being present for those he loved. Despite his modesty, his pride in his family was always evident - and his values continue through them.
