Father Luke Wei, a beloved priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully, having devoted his life to God and His people with quiet strength, fidelity, and joy. Born in China to Jude Wei and Lucy Huan, Father Luke entered formation as a young man and, after the upheaval of 1949, continued his studies in Taiwan with fellow seminarians who had fled the mainland. He completed preparatory studies in 1953, entered the major seminary in Hong Kong, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1960. Early in his ministry he served Chinese refugees in South Korea and then pursued graduate studies in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, where he also learned Italian. After several summers assisting in the United States, he came to Brooklyn in 1967, was incardinated into the Diocese of Brooklyn in 1970, and spent nearly fifteen grace-filled years at St. Frances Cabrini Parish. He later served at Our Lady of Refuge in Flatbush, celebrating his silver jubilee in 1985, and in 1988 began a long and cherished chapter at Saint Finbar Catholic Church in Bensonhurst, where his steady presence, pastoral gentleness, and ready smile endeared him to generations of parishioners. A devoted brother and uncle, he treasured time with family in Bensonhurst and abroad; among his siblings are Sister Mary (Paris), the late Father Thomas (Hong Kong), Matthew (Brooklyn), Joseph (China), Bernard (China), and the late Teresa (Hong Kong). Known for his humility, integrity, and tireless service, Father Luke shepherded souls in several languages and cultures, moderated parish ministries, and faithfully offered the sacraments with reverence. He loved simple joys—visiting with family, a friendly match of tennis with fellow priests, and the daily rhythm of parish life—always pointing others toward Christ. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, brother priests, and the countless faithful he served.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his priestly heart, spent in service, continue to inspire all whom he led to the Good Shepherd.
