David Armato Sr

David Armato Sr., born on July 18, 1942, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 83 years old and cherished by many. His family and friends will gather to honor and remember his life through visitation on September 17, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Miraglia Funeral Chapels, 8519 New Utrecht Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11214. A Mass in his memory will be held the following morning at 9:45 AM at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 7413 20th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11204, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Ave, Staten Island, NY 10309.

David loved life’s simple pleasures and lived each day with a deep commitment to his family and community. He was a devoted husband to his wife Susan, a proud father to his son David Jr. and his wife Roseann, and to his daughter Margaret. He was a loving grandfather to Christopher, Nicholas, Amanda, and Mario, and a caring brother to his sister Catherine.

He worked for many years at Waldbaum’s Supermarket, where he was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and exceptional storytelling. He loved sharing tales from his days at the store and from his upbringing in Brooklyn. He especially enjoyed recounting how, on September 17, 1964, he made a U-turn on Ocean Parkway and met the woman who would become his wife—the one he affectionately called "Sue."

David loved animals, especially his dog Snowball, who never left his side and enjoyed sitting outdoors with him while he supervised the neighborhood. He had a gift for fixing things and could always be found in “Papa’s Workshop” in his basement, making or mending something for his grandchildren, who knew they could always count on Papa.

He enjoyed fishing, painting by numbers, watching Let’s Make a Deal and The Price is Right, and playing board games like Monopoly. He was also an avid Nintendo player who could still dominate a game of Dr. Mario. He kept everyone smiling with his signature dad jokes and witty one-liners.

He was known in the neighborhood as a friendly face and a watchful presence, always walking along 20th Avenue with a smile, a wave, and time to talk to anyone. Whether helping a neighbor, fixing something at home, or enjoying Oreos and milk at 1:00 AM, David lived with warmth and joy. He supported his grandchildren, cheered them on in everything they did, and made everyone feel special just by being in his presence.

He will be remembered as a tough cookie with a sweet soul, someone who loved deeply, gave freely, and left behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and love.
