Celestino Parisi passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of love, integrity, and hard work. He is Predeceased by his beloved wife Giovanna Parisi. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Maria Parisi and Tina Parisi Casey, who remain endlessly proud of the father who guided them with strength, generosity, and unfailing kindness.
Born in Italy, Celestino crossed the Atlantic on the Andrea Doria in 1955 with his wife, then three months pregnant, determined to build a future rooted in family and honest labor. He worked at Mrs. Wagner’s Pies, then in construction, later as a gardener, and retired with pride from the Teamsters Union. His hands were always busy and capable, whether tending soil, repairing what was broken, or steadying a loved one through difficult times.
Celestino was an avid gardener and an extraordinary farmer who could coax life from any patch of ground. He loved to dance, to tell stories that captivated a room, and to make and share his own wine. He was creative, patient, fiercely independent, and deeply devoted to his family. Friends and relatives remember a man who played a formidable game of briscola and scopa, whose laughter warmed gatherings, and whose quiet presence inspired trust.
Those who knew him best describe him as good, moral, just, and honest, a man of profound generosity and unshakable integrity, loving in spirit and tough when life required it. He was independent and proud, and he encouraged his daughters to pursue further education and their ambitions even though he had not been given the same opportunity. What people loved most about him was simple and profound. He was always ready, willing, and able when needed.
Among the cherished memories are visits to his hometown in Italy and the afternoons he spent teaching how to prune a grapevine by hand. He loved birds and once rescued an injured crow who came to be known as Cheech. The bird visited him daily, a small testament to the gentleness and healing touch that balanced his great strength.
Celestino counted his children, and the education and achievements he encouraged in them, as his greatest triumphs. He found joy in the garden, a pastime that reflected his way of living: nurture patiently, work faithfully, and celebrate the harvest. Though steadfast and strong, he carried a gentle, hopeful heart. He was a good and honest man with a great soul, an optimist devoted to family and the simple graces of everyday life. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered ~ may the seeds of his love continue to bloom in all of us.
